Frequently Asked Questions
What Vaccines Are Required?
Unlike the costly vaccines that a kennel requires such as Bordetella, K9 Influenza, Distemper and Rabies, I only require a current rabies vaccine. A copy of your pets current rabies certificate is required to be on file. This is required for all cats and dogs. Rabies is a vaccine required by law and needs to be proven if your pet bites someone or becomes ill and needs veterinary treatment.
Why Not Use a Kennel?
Kennels are expensive, although they charge per day rates, many of their services are extra. They require costly vaccinations, they are housed often in an area with concrete floors and bars. Kennels are well staffed, however, your pet will only receive approximately 1 hour of personalized care per day unless you pay for additional services.
Pets often become stressed in the unfamiliar kennel environment, which can lead to not eating, shaking, trauma and other stress related issues. Many pet owners find that their pets become ill due to Kennel Cough, K9 Influenza, etc., leading to costly vet bills and/or hospitalization. The vaccines that are required do not always protect your pet. This is common when many pets are housed in the same environment. Often, this cannot be avoided.
Are Reservations Required?
Yes, reservations are required as I can only properly care for a limited number of pets at one time.
Are Food and Treats Provided?
No, as many pets suffer from allergies and can have digestive issues if their diet is changed. I always recommend that their regular diet is continued.
Are Crates Required?
Only if your pet is not housebroken or is destructive. In these cases you may bring your own crate or I can provide a cozy crate. Otherwise, your pet is free to roam about. If I am sitting at your home, your rules are followed.
Will My Dog Be Walked?
Yes, walks are provided weather permitting.
Will My Pet Receive Medications?
Yes, your pets oral medications will be given as per owners instructions. Injections can be given for small additional fee.
What If My Pet Becomes Ill?
Should your pet become ill, you will be contacted. If you are not available, your emergency contact will be contacted. The vet of your choice (that you listed on your questionnaire) will be contacted and your pet will be taken there for treatment. If your Vet is not available at that time, your pet will be taken to a 24 hour Emergency Facility for treatment. At all times, you or your emergency contact will be kept informed as to his/her medical condition. It is always a good idea to have your pet examined by a veterinarian before you go away.
Where Will My Pet Be Housed?
At my home, I have a 500 sq ft efficency apartment with carpet, Heat and A/C, private entrance and private yard to play in. I also have a finished basement with a large sectional sofa, carpet, heat and because it is below ground, it is always cool. At no time will your pet interact with any other pets, including my own.
Are Credit Cards Accepted?
No, at this time I do not accept credit cards. Currently, I accept cash or check.
